Time to explain a little about why Fairwhether was started.

Having been a 'designer' for a few years now, first in school, then taking projects on the side, and now working full-time, I am starting to gain a bit of perspective on the various roles and positions I fill or have filled. While in school, or at my job now, I have always felt something had to exist on the side that was purely a creative driven project. No client (other than myself) and more personal exploration. While working on these type of projects, I have worked solo or with people. While solo can be a great trial, and lead to a lot of self-questioning and key answers to individual process and progress, there is something that comes from working with someone that always helps take the work to a new place.

For awhile I was working with a few people and doing some fun music based projects for bands, and it was a great experience. Spending 8 hours a day (sometimes much much more) coming up with ideas and playing around, all the while bouncing those ideas off each other was fun, and extremely productive. After all, I love what I do and could easily spend all my time designing. But it does take a special environment, like what was going on there for that period of time. That need for a special environment shows that something is often needed for the creativity to come from me. Little triggers that may turn me in a new direction, or spark an idea that I wasn't coming up with on my own. It is something I have always had to do when working by myself; taking a break, reading a book, or simply going to the bathroom. Anything that lets you lose focus, and bring other things into your peripheral vision that you will hopefully catch onto.

I have been looking for someone that I click with, that I can start something up with for a bit now. When I first met Dustin, i was blown away by what he was already doing with Cadence Clothing and his inexhaustive appetite for creating. As I got to know Dustin better, I was happy to help out with his site and see a bit of his creativity more closely. I was keen on trying to work with him as much as possible, though the platform was never really there. As I grew impatient and needed to start something new up, I knew I wanted to work with people and Dustin was the only person I could imagine doing it with. He has a sense for design, and creates awesome clothing that is constantly expanding to new areas.

Fortunately, he was interested and this is how Fairwhether has started. It is really something for ourselves (at least myself) that I would like to share, hence the blog and site. For now it is super minimal. I don't really know where it is going, but I am certain the path will show itself as I keep working with what I have. A few collaborations are already in process, and they will go up here as soon as they are ready. But until then, you are stuck with this little blog, and my rants. Sorry, but deal with it.

ps. This blog is hopefully meant to stimulate and raise points of concern. I plan on using this as a podium to voice some of my ideas. As something mainly for myself, I hope it creates conversation, but I am currently not interested in housing that conversation here (so no comments). This is purely an outlet for me to talk about things I feel are of importance, express things and let it out, rather than have some masturbatory blog about what I did, what I just bought, or how great it all is. There are better things to discuss than my ego. That said, please keep reading.

pps. Dustin owns the Northwest!
